What is the Sharing the Point: Asian Tour?

The Sharing the Point (STP) Asian Tour marks the debut of a new, community-centric SharePoint initiative.  The initial STP offering will consist of a series of free, half-day SharePoint events which will take place in three Asian countries this March. The STP Asian tour is made possible through a generous donation from Fpweb.net, and the goal is to promote SharePoint while educating and galvanizing members of the local communities in the participating cities around the benefits of SharePoint.

The featured speakers on the Sharing the Point Asian Tour are world-renowned SharePoint evangelists Joel Oleson, Michael Noel,  Paul Swider, Mark Miller, Rob LaMear and Dux Raymond Sy. Each presenter will provide sessions on real-world SharePoint experiences, lessons learned, best practices, and general knowledge to attendees. In addition, John Anderson from the blog SharePoint Blank will accompany the tour as an "embedded journalist," providing daily updates from the road, as well as extensive coverage of each tour stop.  Bios for each of the tour participants are available here.

Event Details
Sharing the Point is free to attendees, and is modeled along the lines of such popular community-generated  events as SharePoint Saturday. The STP Asian tour is scheduled to stop in the following cities:
March 10, 2011, Thursday: Beijing, China
March 12, 2011, Saturday: Manila, Philippines
March 14, 2011, Monday: Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Food and drinks will be provided to attendees during the event, and there will be numerous giveaways throughout the day. There will be 2 content tracks from which attendees may select the topics, which most closely align with their job function or area of interest: Developer, Administrator, and Business.

Each track will consist of 3 presentations lasting approximately 60 minutes and ranging from introductory, 100‐level content to highly technical 400‐level “expert” sessions.   Session abstracts are available here.

Event Attendance
Each stop on the Sharing the Point tour will accommodate between 150-200 people. Please note that SharePoint community events of this type have been known to reach capacity within 24 hours of the opening of registration, and the waiting list is typically between 200-300 people.  Registration details for each stop on the tour will be announced as soon as they become available, and will be announced here on the STP site as well as on the blogs of the participants.
